When I think of a career in science, I imagine years of competitive education and research. A life in which I collect college degrees like tea-spoons in a souvenir shop and sleep in a bed padded with grant money. I pretend that two things are named after me; my big scientific discovery and an award for people who come close to being almost as amazing as me. Good life right? Possibly, but I would like to take a moment (with the help of Popular Science magazine) and warn all those aspiring micro-biologists about the some of the less glamorous aspects scientific work, and I am not talking about dark matter.
